Here is the fall schedule of classes being offered at the Central Wisconsin Cultural Center.
Beginning Oil Painting
Mondays: September 12, 19, 26, & October 3 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
-Course Fee: $150.00 ~ All materials included Instructor: Bonnie Dhein
This course is designed for beginners and those who have minimal painting experience. Students will learn the basics of handling oil paints, brushes and tools, mediums, canvas and displaying finished artwork. The fundamentals of composition, value, tone and blending colors will also be covered. One-on-one and group discussions will also touch upon concepts crucial to the creative process, including critical thinking, discipline and spontaneity among others. Technical demonstrations will complement our studio work. The goal of this course is to give students the basic tools and ideas necessary to begin their own personal painting practice.
At the end of this course students will complete a value study, color mixing chart and a 16 x 20 oil painting using gallery wrapped canvas with the knowledge they have learned.
Introduction to Glass Mosaics
Saturday, September 24, 2016 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

“Come experience the endless possibilities of this beautiful art form.”
Students will be introduced to types of glass applicable to mosaics and will learn to use mosaic tools to cut and shape glass into tesserae (the basic unit mosaic). This class offers a strong foundation for constructing interior mosaics including safety, cutting, proper adhesives, substrates, design/layout and grouting. Instructor will cover design, terminology, substrates, adhesives, finishing and more. Students will be introduced to a wide variety of materials and will complete an 8” x 10” piece for interior display.
Materials included: glass cutter and nippers, protective glasses, 8 x 10 substrate, glue and grout. Students must bring: Paper towel, clean 15 oz. aluminum clean can (from vegetables), and glass cleaner in spray bottle.
Fabulous Faces ~ Oil/Acrylic Painting Course
Mondays, Oct 10, 17, 24 & Nov 7, 2016 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
-Course Fee: $150.00 Instructor: Bonnie Dhein
This course is designed for those with some painting experience to explore a variety of techniques and color harmony on the human face. Students will be working on a 24 x 30” gallery wrapped canvas. Materialize your ideas for color and style to continue with your diversity of painting knowledge.
***Students are required to take beginner course or have a working knowledge of oil painting. Materials needed for this class will be paint and brushes. All other supplies are included. A list of supplies will be given upon registration.
Mixed Media Mosaics
Saturday, October 15, 2016 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
-Course Fee: $60.00 Instructor: Bonnie Dhein
Students will make a mixed media box using mosaic tiles and a treasure from their own stash to create an imaginative and functional art piece. All materials included except your treasures to add from home.
Oil Portrait Class
Saturday, November 5, 2016 12:30 – 4:30 p.m.
-Course Fee: $60.00 Instructor: Bonnie Dhein
This course will give students an introduction to alla prima painting, meaning the first attempt. Students will complete a 12 x 16 wet on wet portrait. The first hour will be instructions for drawing the head with handouts, preparation of canvas and how to measure for placement of facial features. Painting from a live model will take place the remainder of the class.
Bring your brushes, paints and a small glass jar…all other materials are included in class cost. Class maximum: 6 students, unless 8 – 12 students are registered, then two models will be secured. ***Students are required to take beginner course or have a working knowledge of oil painting.
Snowscape ~ Oil/Acrylic Painting Course
Tuesdays, November 1, 8, 15, 22 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
-Course Fee: $150.00 Instructor: Dan Ashbeck
This course is designed for people who love the outdoors and want to visually explore the world around them. There will be discussions on value and placements of colors. Students will finish a 16 x 20 gallery wrap canvas of a snowscape. Materials needed: (may be purchased at the Central Wisconsin Cultural Center) – Robert Simmons Bristle Brushes # 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 or comparable

Glass for Glass ~ Wine Glass Paint Night
Thursday, November 10, 2016 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
-Course Fee: $30.00 Instructor: Bonnie Dhein
Follow with the instructor to paint your own beautiful wine glass and keep for yourself or give to a lucky recipient. All supplies provided. Class cost includes one glass of wine/beer and light snacks.
The Art of Wreath Making
Thursday, November 17 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Do you know how wreaths got started? Learn the beginnings and see how the styles have change with new ways to display wreaths. See several techniques on constructing wreaths and how to choose products to best enhance them. Learn to transition your wreath, whether a decoration for your door or a beautiful table display and more. Transition from fall to the holidays with a few decorative changes.
Students will finish with a trans seasonal wreath created of fresh textural greens to be displayed for the upcoming holidays. Students will need to bring a wire cutter, scissors & pruner to cut heavy greens.
