A Wisconsin Rapids man faces misdemeanor charges after allegedly breaking the window of another man’s truck.
Cory Dalberg, 27, is charged with criminal damage to property, a class A misdemeanor which if convicted could lead to a maximum sentence of up to nine months imprisonment, or a $10,000 fine or both.
According to the criminal complaint, on May 29 a Wisconsin Rapids Police officer was called to Johnny’s bar on the 2600 block of 8th St. S. When he arrived, he met with a man who reported someone broke the window of his truck.
The man had left his truck at the bar the night before and gotten a ride home from a friend. He found the broken window the next day and also reports $800 was stolen from the center console.
Later that day, the owner of the truck called the police officer claiming Dalberg broke the truck window. He told the officer to call a witness who reported he’d seen Dalberg the night before at Hollyrocks Bar holding paper towels to his injured forearm. The witness said Dalberg told him he broke the window.
When police spoke with Dalberg, he admitted to breaking the truck’s window out of anger but denied entering the vehicle or taking anything from it.
Dalberg is free on a $1,000 signature bond and is to have no contact with the truck owner.
He returns to Wood County Circuit Court on December 4 at 9:00 AM for a pretrial conference.
