First degree attempted intentional homicide charges have been filed against a Wisconsin Rapids man suspected of shooting another man at a tavern on on December 12.
Diondrell Hale, 26, is charged with first degree intentional homicide which carries a maximum sentence of up to life imprisonment. He is also charged with first degree reckless homicide, a felony with a maximum sentence of up to 25 years imprisonment, or a $100,000 fine or both if convicted.
An arrest warrant is active for Hale who has not yet been located.
According to court documents, Hale entered Big Al’s Tavern at 126 Second St. N. and walked up to a 21-year-old man. He raised his right hand which was holding a pistol and pointed it at the victim’s face.
A struggle ensued and the two men eventually wrestled each other to the floor and the gun went off. The suspect and victim then left the tavern.
The victim was found nearby on the 100 block of Third Street North. Police saw blood on the victim’s hand and asked if he’d been shot. He lifted his shirt and showed police a bullet wound in the middle of his back.
The victim was treated and taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. No information is known of the victim or his medical condition.
