Hundreds Enjoy Free Haircuts at Mid-State’s ‘Cuts for Kids’ Event
For the City Times
WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Mid-State Technical College’s on-campus salon was overflowing on the evening of Dec. 5 while its Cosmetology and Barber Technologist students, graduates and staff provided free haircuts to 209 community families. The Cuts for Kids event attracted over 350 people and included free food, Christmas cookie decorating, hands-on activities related to Mid-State programs and services, and a chance to meet Santa.
Participants also had access to free lice screening provided by Lice Clinics of America.
According to Missy Skurzewski-Servant, dean of business and technology, Cuts for Kids gives the College’s Cosmetology and Barber Technologist students relevant hands-on experience that further hones their skills and effectively prepares them to be industry leaders in the workforce.
“We were thrilled to see such an enthusiastic response from the community,” she stated. “It has us looking at potentially offering these kinds of events more often in the future.”
