For the City Times
The Arts Council of South Wood County is pleased to announce the sponsorship of the Kids from Wisconsin performance in Wisconsin Rapids in 2017.
Mark your calendars for Monday, July 17 — The past three years, Kids has provided an opportunity called “Realize Your Dream Outreach Program” for youngsters and youth groups to get a taste of life as a performer. Kids troupe members “pay it forward” by teaching performance skills and tools that can be carried into daily life.
“The Wisconsin Rapids outreach was significantly larger than any outreach we have done,” said Tina Weiss, Executive Director of Kids from Wisconsin, “It was fantastic, with 140 at our largest outreach in 2015.”
This workshop will continue in 2017, as it aligns with the Arts Council’s mission of arts in education. The Realize Your Dream objectives are:
- To foster appreciation for performance
- To demonstrate diligence and dedication
- To build relationships with community youth
- To connect with a more diverse audience
- To communicate to youngsters how life’s goals can be attainable by someone just like them
Youth in Central Wisconsin are encouraged to apply for a Kids from Wisconsin audition, and the Arts Council requests that music instructors share this information with their students, also. When representatives from the area are involved with the Kids troupe, it makes the show that much more dynamic and gives them an opportunity to experience a “home show.”
The Kids from Wisconsin is part of an entertainment tradition created for Wisconsin’s talented youth back in 1969. Their formal introduction to performance was at the Wisconsin State Fair and opened for many high-profile acts. Today, the pride and passion that enlightened that early music lives on through a Kids from Wisconsin Revue.
Performing live annually for more than 120,000 across Wisconsin and the Midwest, the Kids from Wisconsin presents great entertainment with some of Wisconsin’s most talented performers ages 15-20. The revue is produced in collaboration with some of the country’s best writers, arrangers, and choreographers.
The KIDS maintain a broad repertoire of music that includes the American favorites, big band, 50s-80s classics, Motown, country, Broadway, and current top hits, filling a two-hour fully staged performance.
Kids from Wisconsin is currently accepting applications to audition for its 2017 season. The auditions will take place in five cities in four days, allowing youth from all over Wisconsin a chance to be a part of the 49th year of Kids from Wisconsin.
