WISCONSIN RAPIDS — Local area law enforcement raised over $1,000 for the Special Olympics this weekend.
Hosted at Walmart, located at 4331 8th St. South, law enforcement teamed up with local athletes to sell t-shirts for this year’s Torch Run for the Special Olympics. The Wisconsin Rapids Police Department will take part in the region two leg of the torch run, held on the 400 block in Wausau on June 7.
“The fundraiser was very well received by those we were able to speak with,” said WRPD Patrol Officer Eric Daven. “Our athletes love to come out and make some sales. It is a great opportunity for not only our athletes to interact with the public but also for the public to see first hand the impact they are making when a shirt is purchased.”
Total sales made for the fundraiser equaled $885 in sales, and $277.16 in donations. For more information, please visit http://www.specialolympicswisconsin.org/events/final-leg/route-information/
