WISCONSIN RAPIDS — Nearly 40 students participated from four local high schools, including Assumption, Lincoln, Port Edwards, and Nekoosa for a special improvisation workshop held by members from the cast of Broadway’s Next H!t Musical.
There were two 90-minute workshops, an improvisation non-musical workshop and a musical improvisation workshop. Members from the cast of Broadway’s Next H!T Musical led participants through improvisational exercises and games that illustrate the basic philosophy and rules of improvisation.
Lessons included saying ‘yes’, active listening, making your partner look good, and above all — having fun.
“In the musical workshop, cast members also introduced participants to the basics of musical improvisation by leading exercises in creating an improvised melody and lyrics, as well as introducing techniques to improvisational rhyme,” said Arts Council Director Sally Kissner.
Both workshops ended with Q&A sessions.
