CHICAGO — The Riverkings finished with a 2-2 showing over the weekend in the United States Premier Hockey League’s annual Chicago Showcase.
The Riverkings started out strong with an opening 2-0 win on Thursday night over the Kalkaska Rhinos. Goals by Jacob Gaydos and Ryan Mantz, as well as a shut out performance by Parker Rutherford helped in the victory.
After dropping their second contest to the Islanders Hockey Club 4-1 on Friday night, they would face off against the defending USPHL Champion Charlotte Rush, and fall to the 6-2 Rush by a score of 9-1. Cory Schwarz would provide the only goal of the night for the Riverkings.
However, the Riverkings finally had a strong showing in the showcase on Sunday, picking up a 5-2 victory over the Motor City Hawks. Goals by Schwarz, Kyle McCauley, and Jacob Gaydos would put them ahead 3-0 in the first period, and the Riverkings never looked back. Alexander Mavrogaiannis and Tristan Hillebert would also find the back of the net during the contest.
The 8-2 Riverkings are back in action this weekend as they travel to Hudson for a two-game series.
