Riverkings Remain in First Place After Tough Weekend
For the City Times
The Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings improve to 18-3 and increase their lead in the standings after a hard fought weekend versus the Dells Ducks.
After winning 3-2 on Saturday in Lake Delton, the boys traveled back to Poppy Waterman Arena for the second game in two days. This Sunday’s game was a back and forth contest, having your Riverkings jump out to a lead at the end of the first period with a fluky long shot goal by Riverkings Defenseman Jan Senkerik to go up 1-0 (assist going to Dylan Torres).
The Ducks answered with three straight goals to go up 3-1, but with less then 5 minutes to go in the third, Riverkings Reed Kaiser got his team to within one goal (Kevin Van Bokkelen assist).
Eric Hirschhaut went end to end and scored a highlight reel goal to even the score late in the third to send the game to overtime (assist going to Will McGouhran). Ryan Mantz scored the only goal in the shootout for the GW and Erik Schuette stood tall in net stopping 36 shots and picked up the win.
The first place Riverkings return back to home ice after being away for 21 days as they welcome River Falls to the South Wood County Recreation Center this coming Saturday, Nov. 26.
