IRONWOOD — The Riverkings split their weekend series in Ironwood against the Fighting Yoopers over the weekend, taking their record to 23-8-1 on the year.
On Friday night, the goals kept coming, as seven different Riverking players found the back of the net. Brooks Hatfield and Matyas Kacirek both contributed a goal and an assist on the night’s dominant performance. Erik Schuette went a perfect 21-for-21 in saves.
“The boys showed lots of balance with all four lines contributing in the win.” said Head Coach Marty Quarters.
On Saturday night, the Riverkings dropped game two in Ironwood losing 3-2 to the Yoopers.
After being down 2-0 after the first, goals by Adam Peterson and Rich Young pulled them even heading into third period. A late goal with five minutes left to play would give the Fighting Yoopers their first win over the Riverkings this season with a final score of 3-2. The Riverkings outshot their opponents 40-15 on the night but still came up short.
They return home for a four-game stretch as they host the Wisconsin Muskies on Friday and Saturday night, then Sunday and Tuesday against the Dells Ducks. More details to follow on both matchups.
