Six Wisconsin Rapids residents have been charged in connection with a burglary of firearms from a residence.
David Zabawa, 25, Amanda Bartlett, 24, Matthew Gordon, 23, Issac Hanneman, 31, and Pandora Weir, 19, all face charges of burglary. Jared Voss, 28, faces charges of a felon in possession of a firearm.
On Sep. 8, 2015, an officer was dispatched to the 1300 block of 22nd Ave. South regarding a complaint of a burglary. The complainant was out of town for a few days and when he returned, multiple guns were missing from his gun safe, as well as $118 in change. There was no sign of forced entry, and the complainant informed police that he believed his ex-girlfiend, Pandora Weir, still held a key to his apartment.
On Oct. 6, 2015, Issac Hanneman told police that Matthew Gordon stole the key from Weir, however, he later recanted his story and stated that Weir gave Gordon the key to the complainant’s apartment. Reports go on to state that Hanneman, Gordon and Weir entered the complainant’s apartment on the night of Sep. 6, 2015 and attempted to steal the firearms out of the safe, though unsuccessful in getting the safe open. Hanneman claimed he only stood in the doorway while Weir and Gordon collected $118 in loose change.
Gordon informed police that after the first attempt was unsuccessful he met with with Amanda Bartlett and David Zabawa on the 1000 block of Lincoln St. According to Gordon, Zabawa told him that if he could get access to the safe and the firearms, he could sell them quickly for cash.
Later that night Gordon returned to the complainant’s apartment with Bartlett and Zabawa. Zabawa used a crowbar to pry open the safe, and the three loaded seven firearms, ammunition, and multiple hunting knives into Zabawa’s vehicle.
On Oct. 12, a detective met with Jared Voss, who indicated that a burglary had occurred where firearms were stolen, and that Zabawa had given him the firearms for him to sell. Voss is a convicted felon.
If convicted, the five defendants face 12 years and six months imprisonment, as well as $25,000 in fines. Voss faces 10 years imprisonment, and up to $10,000 in fines.
On Feb. 1, Amanda Bartlett and David Zabawa plead not guilty to charges of burglary, as well as Jared Voss who plead not guilty to charges of felony possession of a firearm. The three will return to court on Mar. 18, for a pre-trial conference.
Matthew Gordon, Issac Hanneman and Pandora Weir are scheulded to appear in court for an initial appearance on Feb. 8. An arrest warrant as been issued for Issac Hanneman as of Jan. 27.
