For the City Times
One of the goals of United Way of Inner Wisconsin’s Volunteer Center is to recruit and match volunteers for non-profit organizations needing your help in south Wood and Adams Counties. The following are this week’s volunteer opportunities.
United Way’s Volunteer Center: The Volunteer Center has made arrangements with Altenburg’s Farm to glean strawberries after they close to the public.
Our gleaning project will be this Friday, July 1 from 8am – 10am at Altenburg’s. The strawberries will be offered to members of the South Wood County Hunger Coalition (includes SWEPS, The Neighborhood Table, The Family Center Food Pantry, CLF Food Pantry in Port Edwards, etc.). Coalition members will pick up the berries Friday at 10am.
The United Way is looking for at least eight volunteers to pick strawberries for two hours. Volunteers must be able to bend, lift and work on their feet. Volunteers will need to fill out an application. Altenburg’s is located at 7020 Plover Rd (Hwy 54), Wisconsin Rapids.
This is a terrific way to help local food-insecure individuals and families enjoy fresh strawberries, which can also be frozen and enjoyed for months to come. It is also a great way to stop food waste. Please let me know if you are interested in helping out!
Aspiirus Riverview Hospital Gift Shop: -Hours: 3 ½ hour shifts 9:30 AM-1:00 PM OR 1:00 PM-4:30 PM Monday thru Friday.
Volunteers may work as many shifts as they like in a month, most usually will work 1 or 2 shifts a month. Duties may include: Greeting customers, helping customers select merchandise, checking out the customers’ purchases. Basic knowledge of adding machine, credit card machine and basic computer operation is helpful.
The volunteer will be trained by the person in charge of training and after being trained, the manager will be available for any extra help they may need. If you like talking to people and working in an environment where you have the opportunity to make a person’s day just a little better just by listening or possibly selling them something as a gift to make someone else’s day a little better, then the United Way may be the place for you.
Heartland Hospice Vet to Vet Program: – Our VET to VET volunteer program is dedicated to providing quality care to our patients and families that are living in this community. Volunteers help improve the quality of our patients lives through social interaction and companionship. Heartland Hospice is in need of volunteers with military background to join our team of caring professionals. Volunteers are matched up with a veteran that is currently receiving hospice services that would like friendly visits and additional companionship from another veteran. Fellow veterans may be able to relate to the life experiences of the hospice patient and share stories to help enrich the patient’s life during those final months. In addition to social visits, veteran volunteers can assist with pinning ceremonies and Veteran’s Day events.
Central Wisconsin Cultural Center: The Central Wisconsin Cultural Center is looking for volunteers to staff the front desk during the hours the center is open. Duties include answering the phone, greeting guests, taking payment, making change and providing a receipt for sales.
Following the sale, volunteer will enter sale in sales log ensuring that artists will receive payment. Volunteer will provide basic office support to the Executive Director and assist in the general upkeep and operation of the center. An art background is not necessary, however if you enjoy art, this is definitely the place for you.
