A 35-year-old woman has been charged with spitting on an officer while resisting arrest.
Crystal Miller, of Wisconsin Rapids, is charged with discharging bodily fluid at a public safety worker, and resisting or obstructing an officer.
According to police reports, on Jun. 1 an officer was dispatched to the 300 block of 7th Ave. South regarding an altercation between two women. After officers arrived, they identified Miller has having two outstanding warrants for her arrest and took her into custody.
Police noted that Miller was intoxicated at the time of arrest and needed medical clearance before being taken to Wood County jail. Miller was uncooperative at the hospital, and officers attempted to restrain her as she tried to spit on nearby nursing staff at the hospital.
Miller then spit on the officer attempting to restrain her, and continued to resist even after police put a spit mask on her. Miller was reported to have been kicking the backseat of the patrol car for the entire duration of the ride to the jail.
If convicted, Miller faces up to three years and six months imprisonment and up to $10,000 fines. Her pre-trial conference is scheduled for Jul. 15.
