YMCA opens camp season with CAMP WONDERFUL
For the Rapids City Times
WISCONSIN RAPIDS – YMCA Camp Alexander opened the camp season, June 4, with a day camp aptly named CAMP WONDERFUL.
The camp is held in cooperation with the Wisconsin Rapids School District, to offer children with disabilities the opportunity to experience all the friendship, fun, and excitement of the outdoors.
With the aid of YMCA Camp Alexander counselors, school aids and staff, and family members, CAMP WONDERFUL provided a thoughtfully designed day for children with a wide variety of physical and cognitive disabilities to thrive in a safe, friendly, and supportive environment with a traditional day camp experience.
“We believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve” said Kris Jacobsen, Youth & Family Program Director for the South Wood County (SWC) YMCA. “That’s why we are offering an inclusion day experience to children with special needs.”
