Caroline Vehrs Berg, 90
Caroline Vehrs Berg, age 90, formerly of Nekoosa, passed away on February 5, 2015, in West Hills, CA.
A celebration of Caroline’s life will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Nekoosa, WI. The family will greet relatives and friends at a Visitation at the church from 10-11 a.m. with services to begin at 11 a.m. A luncheon will follow immediately at the church.
A private burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Nekoosa, WI.
Caroline was born on February 7, 1924, to Carl and Anna Vehrs, Sr. in Nekoosa. She married Andrew Berg on June 4, 1944. Andrew passed away on December 22, 1959.
Caroline received a Bachelor’s and Master’s from UW-Stevens Point. She taught kindergarten at Humke Elementary School from 1963 to 1990, teaching more than 1200 Nekoosa children.
She participated in city and church activities with the Nekoosa Retailer’s Association, Ladies Aid, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, and Bible Study. Also important to her was the Navajo Indian Bible School in New Mexico where she volunteered for four summers.
She was an active fundraiser for Nekoosa’s Charles and Joann Lester Library, dedicated in 1992, and for Historic Point Basse. She liked new cars and especially babies. She was a proud Democrat.
Caroline is survived by children James (Ellen) Berg of Olympia, WA, Susan Debner of West Hills, CA, Lois (Phil) Stack of Hampden, ME, Anne (Randy) Arndt of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, and Scott (Lois) Berg of Brookfield, WI. She was predeceased by husband Andrew, and son Nicholas (Harriett) Berg. She is further survived by grandchildren, Megan Berg Soria, Andrew Arndt, Elizabeth Berg, and Genevieve Berg.
Also great grandchildren, Jackson and Elijah Soria, and Naiya Saba, sister Marguerite Berg of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, brother Donald Vehrs of The Woodlands, TX, and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial donations may be directed to the Nekoosa Public Library.
