The Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln and Wausau West girls soccer squads faced off Thursday in a contest for third place in the Wisconsin Valley Conference with just two weeks remaining in the regular season. Rapids shut out West with a dominating offensive performance, improving to 5-3 in the WVC.
“It’s always good to get a road win in the Valley and tonight was no exception,” shared Red Raider coach Nathan Cleveland.
Rapids’ outshot West 15-0, keeping pressure on West goalie Jessy Wiskofske all afternoon.
“West played some staunch defense in their defensive third, and their goalkeeper made some athletic saves,” said Clevelend. “But I was pleased the way we were offensively tenacious and were able to break through with a pair of quality goals.”
The Red Raider scoring was a family affair, as sisters Aubrey and Mia Iwinski netted goals on the afternoon.
The Raiders play two conference games on Saturday at the DC Everest Invite. Rapids plays Kimberly and Appleton West, in games that will likely impact seeding in the WIAA soccer playoffs.
