The Rafters fell to the Woodchucks by a score of 7-4 Wednesday night at Athletic Park. The Rafters did win the season series against the Woodchucks with a 6-2 record, but the Woodchucks were victorious in the finale. Relief Pitcher Jameson Lavery of UW-Lacroose was the winning pitcher for the Woodchucks with three scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Brian Russell (College of Staten Island) took the loss, while Robert Zeigler (Kentucky) collected the save.

The 30-35 Rafters are one win away from tying their record for most wins in a season. The Rafters remain in 6th place of the Northwoods League South Division, three games behind the Lakeshore Chinooks.

The Rafters took an early lead as Beau Jordan (LSU) and Bryce Jordan (LSU) came home in the top of the 3rd. Bryce Jordan had three hits and took the fourth and final run for the Rafters in the 4th inning when he singled Jake Sandlin (Southern Mississippi) home. The Woodchucks had five runs in the bottom of the fourth pulling them ahead. Ryan Day (Duke) hit a grand slam to put the Woodchucks up 6-4. They took one more run in the 8th inning when Jared Oliva took the plate. Mason Fishback (Riverside City College) was the other Woodchucks key player with a home run and 2 RBI’s.

The Rafters take on the Thunder Bay Border Cats tonight and Friday at 7:05 PM. The Green Bay Bullfrogs come to town this wekeend for the final series of the season.
