More Details in Saratoga Shooting

The Wood County Sheriff’s Department has reported the names and condition of the victims of a shooting in the Town of Saratoga on Monday night.
According to a release from Captain Quentin Ellis, the officer investigating the shooting, Miguel Oertel, 17, arrived at the residence of 47-year-old Theresa Coates on the 6000 block of Church Ave. in the town of Saratoga with a shotgun. A brief disturbance ensued.
Oertel then shot Coates before turning the gun on himself. Police responded to the scene at about 10:00 PM following a 911 call from a 17-year-old female.
Coates was pronounced deceased at the hospital following the incident.
Oertel remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition and remains under the guard of the Wood County Sheriff’s Department.
The incident is continuing to be treated as a homicide investigation. The sheriff’s department said Oertel and Coates knew each other and there is not a continued threat to the community.
The sheriff’s department said they received assistance with the incident from the Nekoosa Police and Fire Departments, Nekoosa Ambulance, Grand Rapids Police Department, Wisconsin Rapids Police Department, Saratoga First Responders, Rome Police Department, Marshfield Police Department, Spirit of Marshfield, MedEvac from Wausau, and the Wisconsin State Crime Lab.
