Multiple area Anytime Fitness gyms are hosting a Halloween Hustle 5K and Fun Run to raise money for area Boys and Girls Clubs and the United Way.

The 5K begins at 10:00 AM on October 3 and begins at Red Sands Beach on Lake Wazeecha in South Wood County Park. The race will cover the entire circumference of the lake with a little overlap at the end as the lake is only about 4.1 kilometers. The course is also a fun run for those who want to take the 5K a little more casually.

“There are going to be different games and stuff set up on the course so it’s aimed at the whole family,” said Emily Olson, general manager of the Stevens Point Anytime Fitness.

Olson said they chose to run around Lake Wazeecha because it’s a popular location for running events.

“It’s a beautiful area especially at the time of year that we’re planning on having the run,” said Olson.

Employees from the Stevens Point, Plover, Wisconsin Rapids and Marshfield Anytime Fitness locations will combine efforts and assist in operating the race.

“We really wanted to target a local cause that benefited the youth of the area,” said Olson. “I’m a firm believer in the fact that health and a healthy life style starts with children.”

The 5K is open to 300 participants and Olson said to register soon because the spots go fast. The registration fee is $25.

This is a Halloween themed run and runners are encouraged to wear costumes. Prizes will be given to the best dressed. Cash prizes and ribbons will also be awarded to top race finishers.

Following the race there will be food and entertainment for everybody.
