Wisconsin’s current Poet Laureate Kimberly Blaeser is set to make an appearance at the McMillan Memorial Library in Wisconsin Rapids on September 17.

Blaeser, the state’s poet laureate for 2015-16, will lead a workshop on composing persona poems which are written from the perspective of someone or even something else.  The workshop will be held in the library’s McCourt conference room and space is limited.

According to her website “Blaeser is a Professor at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where she teaches Creative Writing and Native American Literatures. She is the author of three collections of poetry: ‘Apprenticed to Justice,’ ‘Absentee Indians and Other Poems’ and ‘Trailing You.'”

“Blaeser is Anishinaabe, an enrolled member of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe, and grew up on the White Earth Reservation in northwestern Minnesota. She is the editor of ‘Stories Migrating Home: A Collection of Anishinaabe Prose’ and ‘Traces in Blood, Bone, and Stone: Contemporary Ojibwe Poetry.’ Blaeser, is currently at work on a collection of Picto-Poems which combines her photographs and poetry.”

Visit the library at 490 East Grand Ave. or call the Information Desk at 715-422-5136 to register for the workshop.
