New Clerk in Town of Grand Rapids

By Jacob Mathias
Employees of the Town of Grand Rapids are seeing a new face in the Town Clerk’s office.
Lisa Dotter-Guyant began her job as clerk for the Town of Grand Rapids on September 22 and said the job is a perfect fit so far. Prior to this, Dotter-Guyant worked at Sentry Insurance in Stevens Point for 13 years as a supervisor.
After leaving the insurance business due to her department being cut, Dotter-Guyant knew she wanted a job in municipal government or a non-profit organization.
“I knew I wasn’t going to go back to work unless it was something I really really wanted and was really interested in,” she said. “I wasn’t going to go back to work just to have a job.”
She said she was always interested in law and government and wanted to work where she felt she was doing good for something. She also loves numbers and the budgeting and payroll aspects of her new position appeal to her.
“I got to sit at my first budget meeting last Thursday night,” said Dotter-Guyant. “It was just super…I could sit and listen to that kind of stuff all day long.”
Dotter-Guyant has lived in the Wisconsin Rapids area her whole life and in Grand Rapids itself for six years. When she’s not working, she enjoys spending time with her 9-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter, flower gardening and reading.
“This is my community. I love this town. The fact that I get to work for that town and be part of everything going on is really fascinating to me,” said Dotter-Guyant.
According to the Grand Rapids website, the clerk’s responsibilities include publishing meeting agendas and recording minutes, maintaining accounting software programs including payroll, accounts payable and recording of receipts, administering the town budget and financial management of departments, issuing liquor licenses, administering elections, acting as custodian of public records and assisting the town board and personnel committee with the implementation of policies, procedures, and mandates.
Exiting Grand Rapids Clerk Judy McClellan will stay the job as deputy clerk for at least a month to train Dotter-Guyant.
The Town of Grand Rapids Municipal Building is located at 2410 48th Street South in Wisconsin Rapids.
