No Parking to be Added Near Woodside School
By Jacob Mathias
A section of Two Mile Avenue running alongside Woodside Elementary will soon be labeled as no parking after a request by the schools was approved by the Wisconsin Rapids Public Works Committee at their monthly meeting on October 6.
The no parking area would cover 25 feet on both sides of the school’s parking lot exit alongside Two Mile Ave. A similar no parking area was added to Grove Elementary in September.
“When school gets out, the vehicles park right next to the exit and they have hard time pulling out onto the street safely to see any traffic that’s coming from either direction,” said City Engineer Joe Eichsteadt.
The idea for the no parking zone was brought forward to the Wisconsin Rapids School District by a concerned citizen and then moved on to the Public Works Committee by request of WRSD Police Liason Officer Kasie Borchardt.
“I think it was good rational last month with Grove School. It makes sense. It’s safer and so forth,” said District 3 Alderperson Scott Kellogg.
After almost no discussion, the request was moved for approval by District 4 Alderperson Thomas Rayome and seconded by Kellogg before being unanimously approved by the committee.
The request goes to the Wisconsin Rapids Common Council for final approval at their monthly meeting on October 20 at 6:00 PM.
