A Nekoosa man charged with stabbing a Wisconsin Rapids man on Tuesday night appeared in court Wednesday.

Terry Esser, 23, is charged with first degree reckless injury and aggravated battery with intent to cause great bodily harm. If convicted, Esser faces a combine maximum sentence of up to 40 years imprisonment, or a $150,000 fine or both. Esser’s charges mark him as a repeat offender as he has multiple offenses against him including a 2012 conviction of burglary armed with a dangerous weapon.

At Esser’s initial appearance in Wood County Circuit Court on October 14 Judge Gregory J. Potter set a $50,000 cash bond for Esser. Should Esser post bond he is to have no contact with the victims or their residences.

Esser was charged following an alleged stabbing of a 23-year-old Wisconsin Rapids man on Boles St. and 18th Ave. Police say the victim suffered non-life threatening injuries. A 17-year-old runaway girl was also taken by police at the scene.

Esser returns to court on October 26 at 2:30 PM for his preliminary hearing and arraignment.
