Assumption Football Enters Playoffs

City Times Staff
After a successful 6-3 season, the Assumption Royals varsity football team qualified for the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association’s state tournament and the first playoff game is set for October 23 against the 7-2 Athens Fighting Bluejays.
The Royals enter the playoffs after coming off a 18-35 loss against the Owen-Withee Blackhawks on October 16 in their last game of regular season play. They took on the Fighting Bluejays earlier in the season defeating them 32-6 on September 11. Their other victories include matchups against Greenwood/Granton, Thorp, Gilman, Loyal, and Newman Catholic.
The Royals other two losses came against the McDonell Central Macks and the Abbotsford Falcons who are both in the playoffs as well. Assumption won’t take on McDonell until the level four playoff game, if at all. Abbotsford is a division higher and Assumption will not see them in playoff play.
The Royals take on the Fight Bluejays at 7:00 PM on October 23 at the South Wood County Recreation Center.
The City Times will provide WIAA football playoff coverage until Assumption takes a loss or the season ends.
