The Wood County Sheriff’s Department has released the names of those involved in a Town of Saratoga car crash on December 9 that left one in critical condition.

According to a release by Sheriff’s Deputy Brandon Burroughs, George Hughes, 71, of Wautoma was travelling northbound on Hwy. 73 near Oak Street in the Town of Saratoga when he crossed the centerline and collided head on with a southbound travelling vehicle containing two Nekoosa residents, 24-year-old Casey Schroeder and 25-year-old Jake Capek.

Hughes was reportedly trapped inside his vehicle and had to be extricated and then taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital. He is in critical condition.

The medical condition of Schroder and Capek was not released.

Assisting the Wood County Sheriff’s Department was Wood County Rescue, Saratoga First Responders, Nekoosa Ambulance and Grand Rapids Fire Department.

The crash is still under investigation.
