Nekoosa Man Charged with Reckless Endangerment
By Joe Bachman
A Nekoosa man faces charges after police say he threatened people with a knife while drinking vodka.
Scott Augustine, 27, is being charged with second-degree recklessly endangering safety and resisting or obstructing an officer. If convicted he could face more than 10 years in prison and over $35,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint, patrol units responded to assist in locating Augustine on July 1, 2015, at a home on the 400 block of West St. in Milladore. At the time Augustine had a warrant out for his arrest after missing court on a prior charge. He had also been under a court order not to consume alcohol.
Upon arrival, officers observed an altercation in the garage of the residence involving a male attempting to restrain Augustine from behind, while Augustine was flailing his arms around while holding a knife.
When the man released Augustine, he was holding a bottle of vodka, the complaint read.
Officers on the scene were able to deescalate the situation but Augustine refused to drop the knife after being ordered to do so. The man who previously had restrained Augustine from behind did so again, and police were able to take him into custody.
Augustine faces a 12-person jury trial beginning on Jan. 20.
