A Wisconsin Rapids Man has been charged after reportedly spitting on an officer after attempting to steal a tractor from a family member.

Benjamin Gasch, 25, faces up to three and a half imprisonment, a $10,000 fine, or both, as well as additional time for resisting or obstructing an officer.

On Jan. 8 deputies from the Wood County Sheriff’s Department were called in response to a report of individual taking a tractor without permission on the 6400 block on 6th Avenue in the Town of Rudolph.

It was later confirmed to be the tractor of Gasch’s family member.

According to police reports, Gasch fled on foot upon after being located by police. Gasch ran approximately 50 yards before tripping over the snow and falling face down.

Police were then able to catch up with Gasch and attempted to place him in custody. Gasch physically resisted a search and started to use profanities and attempted to kick deputies.

Once deputies escorted him into the squad car, Gasch spat in one deputy’s face.

Gasch is currently out on a $2,500 cash bond. He returns to court on Feb. 12.
