A Port Edwards man has been found guilty of Battery By Prisoners in a incident involving two correctional officers.
Bernard Gordon, 37, was scheduled to be transferred from Wood County Jail to Waupaca County Jail on Aug. 26, 2014. According to police reports, the defendant refused to leave his cell and would proceed to take all of his clothes off.
One of the correctional officers took out a taser and ordered the defendant to cooperate, and in response, Gordon splashed water from the cell toilet on himself informing officers that they “wouldn’t tase him” due to an alleged heart condition.
After Gordon continued to resist cooperation, an officer was forced to tase him in the chest. According to reports once the effect of the taser wore off, Gordon went on the attack, punching, kicking and headbutting both of them.
Gordon was found guilty on Jan. 21 due to a no contest plea and was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months imprisonment.
