Milladore man charged with attacking a deputy

By Joe Bachman
A 25-year-old Milladore resident was arrested on Dec. 22 after attacking an officer and resisting arrest.
Jesse Kawlewski is charged with Resisting an Officer and Causing a Soft Tissue Injury to an Officer as well as Disorderly Conduct. According to the complaint, Kawlewski stole a family member’s cellular phone and took it to a relative’s house. After the complainant found Kawlewski, a call was made to dispatch a deputy to the 600 block on 15th St. S. in efforts to retrieve the complainant’s cellular phone.
The deputy made contact with Kawlewski at the door and the defendant immediately became belligerent when questioned about taking the complainant’s cellular phone. Kawlewski would then start swearing at the deputy. After multiple attempts to ask Kawlewski to quiet down, the deputy would have to place the defendant under arrest. The defendant then retreated back into the house and when the deputy tried to make the arrest, Kawlewski would retaliate by putting the deputy into a headlock.
After Kawlewski was overpowered by the deputy and taken into custody the deputy later reported neck pain, which further medical evaluation concluded that the deputy suffered a soft tissue injury to the neck.
If convicted, Kawlewski faces 6 years imprisonment, a $10,000 fine, or both. A date for the preliminary hearing has yet to be determined.
