Letter: Stolen Money Never Returned

To the Editor-

I’m looking for help with a problem I’m having in recovering money that was stolen from me. This is my story.

I’m 90 years old and a resident of Wisconsin Rapids for 50 years. [On] November 6, 2014, I cashed a small C.D. from the bank planning to give my 8 children their inheritance. (instead of waiting until my death) I stopped in Walmart to get milk and in my excitement left my purse with cash in the cart outside and drove off. As soon as I was aware of my mistake I went back to the spot and the purse was gone.

I went inside to see if it was turned in. I called police and was told by an officer that they have cameras outside. The persons were identified and turned in. They went to court and were found guilty of theft and ordered to pay restitution and on probation.

This is where the snag is. I received a very small amount back. What is the point of cameras and witness programs if court & convicted persons get by and are unaccountable for their actions.

I’m looking for answers.

Sincerely,
Alvera Kann
