A 21-year-old man faces charges of domestic abuse and criminal property damage after police say he assaulted a woman and broke her phone.

Shane Labarge, of Nekoosa, is charged with domestic abuse, criminal damage to property, possession of marijuana and battery. According to police reports on Jan. 6, 2016, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Section St. in Nekoosa regarding a call of a domestic disturbance.

Officers on the scene spoke to the complainant who told them that Labarge had allegedly been drinking and became angry at the complainant for an unknown reason. Labarge allegedly threw garbage around the complainant’s home, as well as throwing and breaking her phone.

Larbage pushed the complainant to the floor and held her down during the altercation, causing her to bite Labarge in efforts for him to release his grip. Labarge then punched her in the arm in retaliation. The two had been living together and have a two-year-old son.

During the investigation officers discovered a container with a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana. Tests would later confirm this substance to be THC. Police later made contact with Labarge, whom reports state smelled of marijuana and alcohol. Labarge began to cry and was apologetic about his prior actions.

If convicted, Labarge faces up to nine months imprisonment and up to $10,000 in fines. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for Feb. 15, 2016.
