Planning Members Approve New Bed & Breakfast
By Joe Bachman
Members of the planning commission approved a motion to allow the use of a manor for a bed & breakfast in Wisconsin Rapids on Monday night.
The manor is the historic Le Chateau, located on 1st St. across from the Wisconsin River. Recently renovated in 2005, this three story manor was originally built in 1889. New owners Brad and Faye Collier purchased the manor in hopes of turning it into a bed and breakfast.
“It’s such a grand home, and it’s been apart of the community since 1889,” said Faye Collier. “We will be able to share it with the community, and travelers that come into the community, and I think it will work harmoniously with our neighbors.”
Members of the planning commission expressed overwhelming support for the bed and breakfast, as well as mayor Zach Vruwink. “I think it’s it’s going to be a great addition, and many people have long talked about the opportunity for that property, and I’m very excited to see a local group willing to take that on and bring it into reality.” said Vruwink.
The Colliers estimate that the rates will start at $95 a night to $155, depending on the rooms. The final decision will be made at next week’s common council meeting to officially approve the Le Chateau manor for the use of a bed and breakfast.
The historic Le Chateau manor is located at 840 1st St. North.
