Flood Advisory in Place for Wisconsin Rapids
For the City Times
Wisconsin River flows through Wisconsin Rapids were at 18,000 cfs at 9:30 a.m. this morning and have increased to 24,000 cfs at 3pm.
Flows are expected to increase to 30,000 by 5pm, and are expected to increase to around 61,000 cfs tomorrow. At this time, we anticipate the crest at approximately 65,000 cfs on Friday or about 1 foot about flood stage (12 ft). This cresting rate of 65,000 cfs should hold for 24 hours. (For comparison, flow rates in Wisconsin Rapids reached 78,850 cfs on September 25, 2010, which was 2.8 feet above flood stage and 63,900 on April 12, 2011, which was .9 feet above flood stage.)
There is a chance of precipitation tonight and Thursday which may affect the recession of flows; this will be monitored closely. At this time, all city streets will remain open. Should conditions warrant street closures, please be prepared to take alternate routes and abide by the detours as recommended. Never drive in an area where there is standing or moving water.
Because of these increased flow rates, the City has implemented the following measures and safeguards: City officials are actively monitoring flow forecasts and conditions.
