Coffee Tasting Sees Large Turnout

By Joe Bachman
A free coffee tasting event held by Family Natural Foods in Wisconsin Rapids saw a large turnout on Mar. 19.
The event saw close to 50 people in attendance and sampled three types of organic, fair trade coffee. Those in attendance were treated not just with coffee, but with education, as well.
Employee Taylor Christiansen gave a presentation on the history of coffee, the importance of fair trade coffee, and it’s process from the bean to the mug, as well as the intricate process of harvesting coffee beans. The presentation lasted close to an hour in total.
After the presentation, there was live music, and additional sampling of local Indian food. Event organizer Stephen Hittner emphasized the importance of community events.
“This event engages the community, and that’s part of our tradition here,” said Hittner. “Bringing education to the community is what this event is about; in this case, knowledge about coffee, and why fair trade is important.”
