A 43-year-old man is charged with strangulation, and disorderly conduct after police say he choked and abused a family member.

James Carlson, of Wisconsin Rapids, is charged with strangulation, domestic abuse, and disorderly conduct. According to police reports, on Mar. 6, 2016, a sergeant was dispatched to the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department regarding a domestic disturbance.

The sergeant spoke with the complainant, who stated that she had an altercation with Carlson at their residence on the 100 block of Strawberry Ln. Carlson allegedly put his hand around her neck, making it hard for her to breathe, and struck her several times in the head.

Both parties fell to the ground in the struggle, and the complainant stated that two children that live in the household, a 3-year-old and a 5-year-old, witnessed the altercation.

If convicted, Carlson faces up to six years imprisonment and up to $10,000 in fines. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Mar. 24.
