Brooke Halverson has received the prestigious award of Mid-State Technical College (Mid-State) 2016-17 Student Ambassador.

Halverson will represent Mid-State at the Wisconsin Technical College System Student Ambassador Conference in Madison on April 13-14.  During the conference, she will participate in professional growth seminars and activities with 15 other technical college student ambassadors.  Throughout the upcoming year, she will also promote technical college education at various events.

Halverson is a Nursing student at Mid-State’s Marshfield Campus.  She was nominated by Mid-State instructor Pam Alt.

“Brooke possesses all of the core abilities our college embodies while transforming her life, and the lives of her fellow students,” said Alt.

In her nomination, Alt said that Halverson is an amazing student and an excellent choice for Mid-State’s Student Ambassador.  She says that Halverson has maintained a positive attitude and commitment to student success in the face of stress from personal matters and praises Halverson’s confidentiality, professionalism, and clear and concise communication.

“She interacts with staff, faculty, and peers with respect, confidence, and concern,” said Alt.  “She has been very encouraging to other first-semester students as well as prospective students.”

When asked what accomplishment she is most proud of, Halverson spoke of her effort to go back to college at the age of 38.  She said she overcame fears as an older student, pointing to a culture of respect and integrity at Mid-State that made the transition easy.

Halverson, a mother of five children, is a member of Campus Activities & Student Senate and has a student job at Marshfield Campus.  Outside of Mid-State, she volunteers at Hope Lodge in Marshfield and is active in Project Linus.

The Ambassador Program recognizes and rewards excellence among students attending technical colleges.  To compete for Student Ambassador recognition, Mid-State students from each of the three campuses in Marshfield, Stevens Point, and Wisconsin Rapids, as well as county center in Adams, are nominated by college employees for their outstanding achievement and leadership.  The students go through a formal interview process at their respective campus, with each location advancing one person from whom a college representative is chosen.
