A 33-year-old man is charged with reckless endangerment after police say he tried to stab his girlfriend in the neck.
Jairo Mayogra Ortiz, is charged with second degree recklessly endangering safety, misdemeanor battery, domestic abuse, and use of a dangerous weapon.
According to police reports on Mar. 27, an officer was dispatched to the 2200 block of Maple Ave. in Marshfield regarding a domestic disturbance. The complainant spoke with an officer and stated that Ortiz had been violent with her in the past and had been drinking during the day of the alleged assault.
She estimated that Ortiz drank a twelve pack of beer and some tequila. She told police that Ortiz continually accused her of cheating, and after threatening to kill her, took her children and went to her mother’s.
When she returned, Ortiz allegedly picked up a kitchen knife and lunged at the complainant. According to reports, Ortiz attempted to stab her in the neck, but the complainant was able to grab the knife with her hand and prevented any serious harm. Ortiz’s actions still left the complainant with a slight cut on her neck.
If convicted Ortiz faces up to 10 years imprisonment and up to $25,000 in fines. Further court dates are currently pending.
