John Edward Horn was born on September 8, 1943 in Edgerton, WI to Leonard and Florence (Helgestad) Horn. Forty-Five years ago on February 4, 1971 at the age of 27 John was a victim of a homicide in Phoenix, AZ. He has recently been identified through fingerprints.

The family moved to Pittsville, WI in 1944. John was baptized on October 1, 1944 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pittsville. His godparents were his grandparents, Charles and Louise Horn. John was confirmed on April 27, 1958 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pittsville.

John attended Natwick Grade School in the town of Hansen through 8th grade and one year at Pittsville High school.

John served in the Army National Guard from 1960-1962.

Survivors include his daughter, Kelly (Joe) Meronk, Amherst, WI; one brother, James (Olga) Horn, Peru, IL; six sisters, Joyce (Bob Knoll) Herzberg, Pittsville, WI; Janice (Jerry) Bubolz, Wisconsin Rapids, WI; Judi (Bill) Winch, Vesper, WI; Jackie (Russ) Henderson, Delavan, WI; Joanne (Steve) Hahn, Wisconsin Rapids, WI; and Julie (Dan) Vaughan, Canyon, TX; three grandchildren, Josh (Chelsea) Panter Bassett; Caleb Panter; and Kaylyn (David Williams, Jr.) Panter; four great-grandchildren, Michael and Ivabell Panter Bassett; Keagan and Rory Panter; sister-in-law Blanche Horn; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Leonard and Florence Horn; brother Jerry Horn; brother-in-law Don Herzberg; niece Paula Horn; nephew, Eric Nelson; great-nephews, Lukas Lubeck and Cale Bubolz.

Burial will be at a later date at St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Pittsville, WI. He is buried at Tempe Twin Buttes Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Detective Stuart Somershoe, Family Investigations Bureau, Missing and Unidentified Persons Unit with the Phoenix Police Department. A special thanks also to Christen Eggers at the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office, and to the rest of the Maricopa County Unidentified Bodies Team and Phoenix Police Missing Persons Unit.
