Mid-State Technical College (Mid-State) is hosting an event that invites its employees to combine a fun opportunity with a great cause.

“Demolition for Dollars” will raise money to help fund a variety of programs through the Mid-State Foundation. Monday, June 13 each employee who makes a small donation to the Foundation will have a chance to swing a hammer at a wall during the first phase of construction of the new Student Services and Information Center (SSIC) on Wisconsin Rapids Campus.

Participating employees can take one swing for two dollars, though their best deal is 20 for $20, if they’re up for it. Ellis Stone Construction, the contractor working on the project, will be on hand to provide personal protective equipment to ensure a safe experience. Ellis is also generously matching funds raised by the employees.

“This is such a great opportunity for staff to come together and directly impact students as well as this construction project,” said Jill Steckbauer, director of Foundation & Alumni. “Employees don’t often get to be involved in a demolition project, and raising money for the Foundation at the same time is icing on the cake.”

The SSIC construction project is designed to create a barrier free experience for all individuals seeking higher education at Mid-State.  By improving the way we do business and easily connecting students to the resources they need, this allows a smooth transition from application to graduation ultimately increasing student success.

Mid-State, one of 16 colleges in the Wisconsin Technical College System, offers associate degrees, technical diplomas, and certificates in a variety of high-demand fields.  With campuses in Marshfield, Stevens Point, and Wisconsin Rapids, and a learning center in Adams, the college district serves a resident population of approximately 165,000.
