There was plenty up for grabs Sunday at Central Wisconsin BMX as it was a double-point day at the track, sponsored by Maximum Coatings and Sandblasting.
Dawson Schultz kicked off the day by taking first in the Class 3 Balance Bike division, while Nick Van Holt and Gannon Zielke took the 9-10 Local Open and 7 & Under Cruiser classes, respectively.
Brody Gilbertson outlasted the competition Sunday, scoring double points in the Class 8 Cruisers, and Class 8 Experts, while Damien Bennett, riding for Big Wheels out of Wisconsin Rapids, took home the trophy for the Class 13 Cruiser division as well as the Class 13 Expert division.
When it came to the Class 36-40 Cruiser division, it was Colton Stuckey of Wisconsin Rapids, outlasting Hector Amador of Wisconsin Rapids, as well as Scott Gage of Onalaska and Tyler Grosshuesch of Friendship.
The 5 & Under Novice class winner was Brooks Anderle on Sunday, and Carter Simonis brought home a win in the Class 6 Novice. Other Novice division winners included Cody Adams, 8 Novice, Jackson Lemke, 10 Novice, and Tanner Treutel, 13 Novice. All winners are from Wisconsin Rapids.
As the sun rose in the sky and the Mercury climbed, the CWBMX riders kept on the track, sweating it out for their dads on Fathers’ Day. When the Intermediates took to the track, it was all Parker Schultz of Wisconsin Rapids in Class 6.
Mason Steinhorst, riding for Megadirt out of Wisconsin Rapids, outlasted the competition in the Class 8 Intermediates, beating Jared Bohringer, Brayden Schultz, Julian Scalcucci and James “JT Hotrod” Hampton of the Racer Army Elite team out of La Crosse.
Other Intermediate class winners were Teagen Treutel of Wisconsin Rapids in Class 11, Damien Greenwood, riding for Megadirt/TNT Bicycles of Nekoosa in Class 14, Wisconsin Rapids rider Tyler Bender in Class 16, Austin Wilkerson of Wisconsin Rapids in Class 28-35, and Mega Dirt’s Jonny Goodwin of Stevens Point in the Class 41-45 division.
There were a total of seven girls and women who competed on Sunday, and Megan Dudgeon, riding for Brings of Wisconsin Rapids, placed first in the Class 14 Girls. In the 21-30 Women’s Class, Kayla Hopp of Wisconsin Rapids took the win over Skylar Schaetz and Allie Davis, both from Wisconsin Rapids.
Schaetz may not have won the Women’s class on Sunday, but she took it to the boys in the Class 15 Expert division, beating Kaleb David and Nick Van Holt to the finish line.
Greenwood’s own Rio Rasmussen was first across the line while Justin Gaedtke-Schwartz, of Wisconsin Rapids, finished the day of racing by winning the Class 19-27 Expert division.
It was a scorching day but a great turn out for a Fathers’ Day race, and all riders should be commended for their performance. The next race date is Thursday, June 23 as CWBMX presents Olympic Day at the track. Racing begins at 6:00 p.m.
