An 18-year-old faces charges of burglary and bail jumping after police say he burglarized a storage unit in an apartment complex.

Chase Marceau, of Wisconsin Rapids, is charged with burglary, and bail jumping.

According to police reports, on Jun. 13, a call was made from the 2700 block of Boles St. regarding a potential burglary. Police spoke to a witness who informed them that she saw a person who she identified as Marceau, run past her car. Marceau was seen carrying a black laptop, a backpack, a yearbook, and was wearing a ring that belonged to her.

Officers spoke to multiple witnesses, leading to them to check a storage unit that had been broken into to find multiple items missing from the owner.

Police made contact with Marceau who told them he was allegedly threatened by other individuals who would “beat him up”. Marceau told police he was chased by these individuals, and that he ran into the residence to ask to use the phone to call for police.

Officers asked Marceau about the laptop and backpack, and he immediately became upset and stop answering questions. According to court documents, Marceau was charged with theft of movable property on Apr. 5, and was out on bail not to commit any further crimes.

If convicted, Marceau faces up to 12 years imprisonment and up to $25,000 in fines, as well as six years imprisonment and $10,000 in fines for bail jumping. His arraignment is scheduled for Jul. 14.
