A 24-year-old man faces charges of a hit and run after he left the scene of an accident which caused injuries to another person.
Matthew Atkinson, of Spencer, is charged with hit and run involving an injury. According to police reports on May 6, an officer was dispatched to a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Doege St. and Central Ave. in Marshfield.
As a result of the collision, two individuals were taken to the emergency room shortly after the officer spoke with them. One reported head, neck and shoulder pain, and both were later confirmed to have concussions. Eyewitnesses reported seeing a silver Pontiac Gran Prix collide with the other vehicle, and then drove away.
Later that night police received a phone call from a man who stated his wife just got home and observed her silver Pontiac Gran Prix with substantial damage. It was later confirmed that Atkinson had borrowed the vehicle from a family member that day.
Atkinson told police that was he “scared”, and this is why he did not stop after the accident.
If convicted, Atkinson faces up to nine months imprisonment and up to $10,000 in fines. He faces a jury on Aug. 18.
