A 28-year-old Wisconsin Rapids resident faces charges of strangulation, disorderly conduct, and battery, after police say he assaulted a woman.

According to police reports, on Aug. 6, officers were dispatched to the area of 10th Ave. South regarding a report of a physical altercation between a man, identified as Jared Voss, and a woman. Voss was found running across a field by a local church and was soon caught and taken into custody.

Voss told police that he was allegedly punched in the face by a woman, which is why he was running. A witness at the reported incident informed officers that Voss became violent with the complainant, hitting her multiple times, as well as choking her.

Other witnesses from inside the residence also came forward to describe Voss as the attacker. They made a 911 call soon after the incident.

According to the complainant, she was in an altercation with Voss earlier that day as well. The complainant stated that she was driving with Voss when the two started arguing. She soon stopped and asked Voss to leave the vehicle, to which he allegedly refused to do. Voss grabbed her phone and smashed it on the ground, and then allegedly grabbed her by the throat and became violent, eventually forcing her to the ground.

If convicted, Voss faces up to six years imprisonment and up to $10,000 in fines. He will also face additional misdemeanor charges of battery and disorderly conduct. Records indicate that Voss was found guilty on Mar. 18 of felony firearm possession.

He will face a jury on Oct. 6.
