A 30-year-old man faces charges of threatening an officer, criminal damage, and disorderly conduct, after police say he threatened to fight an officer.
According to police reports, on Aug. 26, officers were dispatched to the 400 block of 7th Ave. North regarding a man who made disparaging comments to a crisis intervention worker. Police made contact with a man identified as James Roberts, of Wisconsin Rapids.
Reports noted that Roberts was intoxicated and was taken into custody for a possible mental health hold after making comments about his life being “worthless”. On the way to a local clinic, Roberts allegedly told an officer that he would “box” him, and that he would also shoot the officer between the eyes.
After being pulled into an observation room, Roberts slammed his head through the drywall of the clinic causing damage. Roberts refused further treatment, threatened the medical staff, and told the doctor who was treating him that he would headbutt him.
If convicted, Roberts faces up to six years imprisonment and up to $10,000 in fines, as well as additional time for disorderly conduct and criminal damage. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 12.
