A 30-year-old Wisconsin Rapids man is charged with possession of methamphetamine after a traffic stop turned into an arrest.
According to police reports, on Aug. 21 a traffic stop was initiated on 1st St. in the city of Nekoosa for a registration violation. The defendant, identified as Jared Neukirchen, was the passenger of the vehicle.
After the driver consented to a police search of the vehicle, officers found a bag containing clear plastic baggies with white residue with a small amount of a substance believed to be methamphetamine under the driver’s seat. Also found in the bag was a glass smoking device used as a methamphetamine pipe.
Neukirchen allegedly admitted to police that the pipe and methamphetamine belonged to him, and not the driver.
If convicted, Neukirchen faces up to three years and six months imprisonment, and up to $10,000 in fines. He will make an initial appearance in court on Sept. 19.
