Wisconsin Rapids Man Shot in the Leg

Police reported a shooting on Sunday morning, stemming from what appears to be drug related activity.
At 2:45 a.m. a tip was given to the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department regarding potential drug activity on the 1300 and 600 blocks of Wisconsin St.
According to reports, police investigated the residence on the 1300 block of Wisconsin St. and learned that a 23-year-old man was with a number of other individuals earlier in the evening. The man, whose name is being withheld, was carrying a loaded .22 handgun.
A 31-year-old woman among the group grabbed the weapon, placed it on the man’s leg and fired, the bullet entering the upper leg of the 23-year-old. The man did not seek medical attention, and the woman left the scene to an unknown location.
At approximately 3:15 a.m. officers found the gunshot victim at a residence on the 600 block of Wisconsin St. and he was taken to the hospital for medical assistance. Police found the alleged shooter at approximately 6:45 a.m. and was taken into custody on a requested charge of causing injury by negligent handling of a dangerous weapon.
Officers also found methamphetamine on the 23-year-old victim, and charges will be requested for possession.
