Mid-State to Offer New Welding Certificates at Adams-Friendship High School

For the City Times
Creates six-month path to a career
A partnership between Mid-State Technical College, Adams-Friendship High School and Wisconsin Career Pathways is bringing a new opportunity for hands-on career training to the Adams area. Mid-State’s Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) certificate consists of three evening classes to be held at Adams-Friendship high school and can be completed in as little as six months. The certificate is open to high school students and adults.
Students who complete the GMAW certificate learn basic gas metal arc welding as well as fabrication, blueprint reading, safety and more. The combination of lecture with hands-on practice gives students confidence in their skills going into the workforce. All credits transfer to Mid-State’s Welding technical diploma, and there are no testing requirements for the certificate.
The new certificate addresses demand from area employers in production, construction, manufacturing and servicing industries who are experiencing a shortage of welders with entry-level skills. “Welders are essential in almost every industry, earn high salaries and enjoy flexibility when it comes to switching industries without changing careers,” said Chris Rebman, Mid-State’s associate dean of Technical and Industrial programs. “We are grateful for the partnerships that have made it possible to expand our in-demand career training options in the Adams area and meet employer needs for qualified entry-level welders.”
Grant money is available to qualified candidates working toward the GMAW certificate. The first class starts onOctober 26, and Mid-State is accepting applications now. To learn more about this opportunity, visitwww.mstc.edu/wanttoweld or contact Rebman at 715-422-5421.
