Riverkings Spotlight: Atli Valdimarsson

City Times Staff
This season one Iceland native is on an active roster in all of junior hockey in the United States Junior ranks, and he is playing for your own Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings.
20-year-old Goalie, Alti Valdimarrson has been in net for three of the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings wins this season. Valdimarsson is in his first season playing Junior Hockey in the United States.
The 6’1, 160 pounder turned away 69 of 77 shots faced through 218 minutes in net, earning a 2.19 GAA and .896 save percent. A key win for Valdimarsson came earlier this month when he held the Defending Champion Dells Ducks to 2 goals in a Riverkings 3-2 victory.
The Riverkings sit on top of the USPHL Midwest Division standings with a 10-1-0 record, due in part to solid play from Valdimarsson who represented his home country of Iceland in World Junior play since the 2011/12 season.
“Valdimarsson will age out of Junior Hockey at the end of the season and has lots of college interest.” said Head Coach Marty Quarters.
The Riverkings currently have players from four different countries and 12 different states.
