Central Chamber Corale to Perform Director’s Favorites
For the City Times
The Central Chamber Chorale will perform choral music selected by the Director, Greg Reierson, to represent many of his favorite pieces of music from some of his favorite composers.
Of Johannes Brahm’s “Warum”, Greg reflects that, when he first sang it in 1973, “It opened my mind to the true beauty of choral music.”
Composer Dan Forrest has become a personal favorite of Greg. The Chorale will sing Forrest’s “Venite Adoramus.”
Aaron Copland is another of Greg’s favorite composers, so he chose “The Promise of Living” to feature Linda Feldt and Kathy Biederwolf at the piano. The second half of the performance features folk songs and spirituals. “The Soldier Boy” arranged by Alice Parker and Robert Shaw features soprano soloist Janet Alekna of Wisconsin Rapids. The stirring spiritual, “Go Down Moses” includes a bass solo sung by Gary Maurtiz.
The concert in Wisconsin Rapids is at the First Congregational Church, 311 2nd St. South, on Friday, Nov. 11th at 7:30 p.m.
The concerts are open to the public without charge. The Chorale, under the direction of Greg Reierson, choral director at Marshfield High School, is in its 46th season. Linda Feldt is the Chorale’s accompanist.
