Allied health encompasses all patient care not performed by nurses and doctors and accounts for 60 percent of all healthcare providers. The allied health event provided an informative and engaging way for community members, employers, and prospective students to gain a better understanding of these careers and the positive impacts that highly trained Mid-State graduates have on local healthcare.

Event participants explored five hands-on demo stations of Mid-State’s allied health programs, including Respiratory Therapist, Medical Assistant, Central Service Technician, Surgical Technologist and Phlebotomy Technician.

The event also featured a showcase of Mid-State student graduates as well as remarks from Wisconsin Technical College System president Dr. Morna Foy, Mid-State president Dr. Sue Budjac, Marshfield Clinic Health System director of education Dr. Matthew Janssen and Department of Public Instruction director of career & technical education Sharon Wendt.

“These are the unsung heroes of our healthcare system,” said Foy. “This provides an opportunity to increase awareness of the fantastic health careers that start with a credential from Mid-State Technical College, which is a key talent pipeline for the region’s healthcare providers.”

If you have any questions about the allied health programs at Mid-State, please contact associate dean of service and health Lori Weigel at (715) 389-7016 or [email protected].
